RESOLUTIONS
RESOLUTION INTERSTATE MINING COMPACT COMMISSION
BE IT KNOWN THAT:
WHEREAS, throughout the years the Interstate Mining Compact Commission has been privileged to hear many excellent speakers at its meeting; and
WHEREAS, it is through these speakers that the Commission is able to keep abreast of new developments, new policies, and new technology in the fields of mining and environmental protection; and
WHEREAS, the speakers who addressed the Commission’s Annual Meeting on April 26, 2004 in Virginia Beach, Virginia are men of outstanding ability in their respective fields, and the benefits of their advice and experience are a valuable contribution to the Commission; and
WHEREAS, the Commission is most appreciative of the time and effort the speakers have expended in preparation and presentation of their remarks;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That the Interstate Mining Compact Commission expresses its sincere gratitude to

BE IT KNOWN THAT:
WHEREAS, Benny Wampler and his staff arranged an informative and interesting meeting for the Interstate Mining Compact Commission in Virginia Beach from April 25-28; and
WHEREAS, our hosts extended unexcelled southern hospitality and charm to the Interstate Mining Compact Commission in all of the sessions and social activities;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That the Interstate Mining Compact Commission expresses its deep appreciation to Mr. Wampler and all of the other state officials who made these arrangements and worked very hard to assure a successful meeting.

BE IT KNOWN THAT:
WHEREAS, the Interstate Mining Compact Commission’s Annual Meeting in Virginia Beach, Virginia from April 25-28, 2004 was honored by the presence of Louis R. Jones, Vice Mayor of Virginia Beach; and
WHEREAS, Vice Mayor Jones presented the Welcoming Address at the Opening Session on April 26, 2004;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That the Interstate Mining Compact Commission expresses its sincere gratitude to Vice Mayor Jones for his participation in making this year’s meeting an outstanding success.

RESOLUTION INTERSTATE MINING COMPACT COMMISSION
BE IT KNOWN THAT:
WHEREAS, The Interstate Mining Compact represents the natural resources interests of its member states, and is composed of the Governors of said states who act as Commissioners; and
WHEREAS, the Compact’s purposes are to advance the protection and restoration of land, water, and other resources affected by mining and to assist in achieving and maintaining an efficient, productive and economically viable mining industry; and
WHEREAS, among the Compact’s powers are the study of the conservation, adaptation, improvement, and restoration of land and related resources affected by mining, and the gathering and dissemination of information; and
WHEREAS, the Compact was founded on the premise that the mining industry is one of the most basic and important industries in the Nation; and
WHEREAS, the discovery and wise use of the Nation’s mineral deposits, and the effective and efficient reclamation of mined lands, are dependent on the availability of geologic maps; and
WHEREAS, the Compact fully supports the purposes of the National Geologic Mapping Act of 1992, and fully supports it reauthorization
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That the Interstate Mining Compact Commission urges that the Secretary of the Interior request, and the Congress appropriate, the full statutorily authorized amount of $57 million for FY 2005 to implement the National Geologic Mapping Act.

RESOLUTION INTERSTATE MINING COMPACT COMMISSION
BE IT KNOWN THAT:
WHEREAS, article V, paragraph (f) of the By-laws of the Interstate Mining Compact Commission provide for associate membership in the Commission; and
WHEREAS, by letter dated November 5, 2004, from Governor Olene S. Walker, the state of Utah made application to become an associate member of the Commission; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to its letter of application, the state of Utah has expressed interest in the programs of the Commission, desires to participate in its activities, and commits itself to pursue regular membership in the Compact through the adoption of necessary legislation;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That the Interstate Mining Compact Commission, by unanimous affirmative vote of those member states assembled at the Mid-Year meeting of the Commission held in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, hereby approves the entry of Utah as an associate member of the Commission.
