AL 10/1/70 (AL Surface Mining Act of 1969)1997 - Increased bond to $2,500/acre; certain exemptions. 1975, "Chert" exempted; 1988, rules passed to clarify definitions & other requirements; 1995, personal use exemption; 1999, Improved environmental controls, backfill highwalls, contemporaneous reclamation, 50 foot setback, fines for violations, authority to deny permits, and other controls.
AR 1971, 1977; major revision in 1991 Amendments passed in 1993, 1995, and 1999. In 1997 the quarry industry passed their own legislation for reclamation and safe closure of a quarry. The legislation did not authorize the issuance of a permit. The industry submits a Notification of Intent to Quarry.

Underground Mining: The Ohio Mine Safety Law was created in 1883. There have been several revisions through the decades, but the code is in dire need of modernization.
